Plankogel (1.531 m)
It is 1,531 m high, the Plankogel on the Sommeralm. It is one of the last peaks in the Eastern Alps at over 1,500 m above sea level. The next mountain, in an easterly direction, which is again higher than the Plankogel, is about 700 km away in the Romanian Eastern Carpathians.
From the summit you have a fantastic view of the mountains of Upper Styria, Carinthia, Slovenia and Lower Austria - provided the visibility is right. The Plankogel stands in the middle of the largest contiguous alpine area in Europe (Sommeralm, Teichalm) and is the location of one of the highest wind turbines in Europe at 1,400 m above sea level.
